What do you write?
Dune 493

Tell us a little about yourself… How long you’ve been painting and who you’re down with etc.
Born and bred in Newark N.J. aka Brick City. I started taging around 1984 im down with NRG, TWS, NVS, JC, LTD, VOS, DSM

So what brands of paint did you use most frequently in the early years?
Krylon & Rusto!

Are you a can collector?
Yes. I have a small collection. I try and go out every week and look for old cans.

^Classic Piece Breakdowns: Fill: Rust-Oleum ‘Berry Pink’, ‘Sun Yellow’, ‘Glacier Blue’, ‘Real Orange’ & ‘Green Apple’. Background: ‘Black’ with ‘White’ highlights.

Can you still find old paint stock in your area?
All I have seen was some 1991 Krylon and some 1987 Rusto. All the older stuff was picked up by other collectors years ago.

Any good racking stories?
Back in 1989 an NVS crew member had a cousin that worked in K-MART so we went to say hi. We grabed a cart and headed for the paint section and loaded it up with Krylon & Rusto. The cousin bagged it up gave us a receipt and we walked out with 30 cans nice and smooth!!

Any favorite old paint stores?
I was just starting to collect cans so I hit a local paint spot and asked about old dead stock but I was too late. A year before a guy came and bought it all, that’s my luck with stores…

Best discontinued paint, and why?
Well I thought Rusto was great paint but talking to old writers from the 70’s they all say Red Devil was the best.

DUNE & SPARK, 1985.

Any good racked cap/can combos?
Yeah I would go to stores and look for cleaning products to get fat caps. The old blue or green middle caps worked great on Krylon.

Worst paint ever award goes to?
The worst I used was Safe Guard or Path Mark.

PEZ ONE & J STAR, ‘ENERGY’ – NRG 1986.

What are some of your best painting experiences?
The best was the times we hit the Grant Lay up in Brooklyn. It was a dream come true and having dudes from Newark seeing my stuff and bugging out.

How do you feel about the brands of Euro paint and their impact on the scene?
I think its good in a way. It’s great paint no question. I just wish that the U.S. paint companies would have done it first.

If you could choose a few cans to have on your shelf, what would they be?
‘Jungle Green’, ‘Hot Raspberry’, ‘Icy Grape’, ‘Aqua Turquoise’ & ‘Hot Pink’ – the classics!

Any other comments?
First, thank you for the interview. Shout outs to NJ and NYC and all the writers of the world. KEEP ROCKING!!
