What do you write?
Kilo, Sinstars

Tell us a little about yourself… How long you’ve been painting and who you’re down with etc.
Ive been writing since around 83/84. My main crew is SIN Cru, Sinstars although I’m also in AWE, All World Experts and RCS, Radicals. Another crew I still represent is SSA, South Side Alliance, which was one of the first Hip Hop crews in the South West of England.

What brands of paint did you use most frequently in the early years?
Mainly Car Plan, Dupli-Colour & Smoothrite for outlines although I did also use Buntlack – when I could get hold of it!!!

Are you a can collector?
Im not a fanatic but I do like to have one of each brand on my rack!

Can you still find old paint stock in your area?
I haven’t really bothered searching as I prefer to use todays paint!

Any good racking stories?
No! I was always crap at racking. One of my funniest moments was when I tried to rack ONE can of Homestyle from my local B&Q and it fell out of my jacket sleeve resulted in me getting chased from the shop all the way back to my home area!!!! I got away tho!

Any favorite old paint stores?
There used to be a great spot for Homestyles in Chadwell Heath (I think?) near East London it wasn’t a place to rack from but they only cost 50p each!

^Classic Piece Breakdown! ‘MOM’, 1988. Fill: Homestyle, ‘Primrose Yellow’, ‘Green’, ‘Powder Blue’ & ‘Blue’. Outline: Smoothrite, ‘Red’. 3D: Buntlack, ‘Pink’. Highlights: Smoothrite, ‘White’. Background outline: Homestyle, ‘Beige’.

Best discontinued paint, and why?
Probably the Homestyles I already mentioned although a certain northern UK writer used to offer a nice discount on Flexa’s, (Dutch paint), that he used to aquire on his travels to Holland!

Ever found some racked caps work good with certain paints?
Hmmm, only the old WD40 caps which made nice fat caps back in the day!

^Classic Piece Breakdown! ‘DOPE’, 1988. Fill: Homestyle, ‘Primrose Yellow’, ‘Blue’. U-Spray, ‘Blue’. Car Plan, ‘Green’, ‘Orange’ & ‘Red’ …can’t remember specific names! Highlights: Smoothrite, ‘White’. Cheech outline: Smoothrite, ‘Black’. Background outline & designs: Buntlack, ‘Lilac’.

^SIN STARS Lakeside Hall Of Fame, 2009: L2R – Keen, Upstart, Skire, Method & Kilo.

Worst paint ever award goes to?
Hmmm, tough one! Probably No.1 – which was a pretty nice brown colour we used for outlines but it would always clog up no matter what cap you used!

What are some of your best painting experiences?
Theres been a few! One of ’em would have to be painting at the TATS Cru guest spot in Hunts Point, BX back in ’96 & another would be riding MY first London underground tube carriage!!! 😉

Do you remember where & when Belton was first available in London?
I’m not actually sure as I don’t think I was living there at the time but at a guess I’d say it was either Stockwell Motors or A1 Motors on Holloway Road?

^Vintage mixer caps!!!

I’m guessing like most UK writers in the early 90s you headed to Amsterdam to stock up on paint? Good memories?
DEFINITELY! We used to go at least 3 or 4 times a year, we’d head to Vibes, (the shop), and then on to Henks market stall at Waterloo Plein to stock up on the Sparvar… high times indeed! 😉

How do you feel about the brands of Euro paint and their impact on the scene?
I think the new paint brands are great in many ways but I also feel that it’s made it TOO easy for new writers. You see a lot of great fills but the actual styles are WAK!!! I remember when I got Cazbee, DSS (London), to come back for a piece a few years ago. He took one look at my stash of Montana Golds & Belton Premiums and asked me where the pastel colours where!!!! LOL Nuf respect Caz!

^Classic Piece Breakdown! ‘PLUS’, 1986. Entirely produced with Car Plan paint! L2R: Kilo, E-Raze, Hi-Rize & Vik-E.

If you could choose a few cans to have on your shelf, what would they be?
Original Buntlack – ‘Pink’ or ‘Cobalt Blue’, original Rust-Oleum & Krylon plus about 500 cans of Montana 94 – I love that shit!!!!

Any other comments?
