What brands of paint did you use most frequently in the early years?
Back in the day I used Krylon, Rust-Oleum, Red Devil, Wet Look, Wet Paint, Zynolyte, Epoxy & Martin Paint store brand.
Are you a can collector?
I do collect cans… Ebay is a good source, but I recently had a bad experience on there. Not calling out people, but dude took my money and never sent the cans… I got my money refunded.

Can you still find old paint stock in your area?
I know there are plenty of undiscovered gems out there, you just need the time and the patience!
Any good racking stories?
Can’t remember what year it was, but my friend Shone and I must have racked about 400-600 cans of paint in one day! I intended on going racking that day because I took the day off of work. We borrowed our boy Roler’s pickup and set out for Long Island. We hit a few spots in Queens with very little success, at least on my end. Once we got out on Long Island we hit a Martin Paint. This was around the time American Accents had just come out and ‘Grape’ was the newest color out and it was a hot color! I remember there was no ‘Grape’ at this spot but plenty of ‘Indian Spice’, ‘Cinnamon’, and I believe ‘Summer Squash’. I think I got like 6-8 cans, and Shone must have had at least 12. From there we hit Home Depot… I must have hit them for 20 or so cans in 2 trips in and out. It seemed that every spot we hit that day we would get 20 or more cans EACH. We had so much paint that when you opened the door to the truck paint just spilled out!
Around 5 or so we decided to head back to Brooklyn and Queens, but we made one last stop at Pergament. Pergament was like the old school Home Depot. So we go in and start racking up… They had the ‘Grape’ American Accents. All of a sudden Shone was like; “Let’s fill up the cart and walk out!” I thought he was joking! So we fill up the shopping cart until paint was barely staying in. Shone rolls the cart right out the store! Right pass the security guard!! Earlier we had put the paint in the bed of the truck, so we dump out all of this paint and Shone is like; “Let’s do it again!” The way things were going that day – why not? So we go back in the store, fill up the cart to the max and walk right out… AGAIN!!
Needless to say,my girlfriend at the time was not happy when I proceeded to bring in about 11 milk crates full of paint. I had so much paint that I sold paint for $1 a can and STILL had enough for my personal use for over a year…
Worst paint ever award goes to?
Worst paint ever… Belton ‘XXL White’. Couldn’t even give it away.
If you could choose a few cans to have on your shelf, what would they be?
There’s not too many cans that I can say that I really want. Rust-Oleum ‘Air Force Blue’, Red Devil ‘Frosted Mint’, Rust-Oleum ‘Fed Safety Black’ & ‘Fed Safety White’, Krylon ‘Pennant Blue’, Oh yeah.. Rust-Oleum ‘Coral Pink’… That’s the one I really want!
How do you feel about the brands of Euro paint and their impact on the scene?
Euro paint… I like it… I think it’s too easy to use. If we had the amount of different nozzles and colors they have now, back then…. forget it! We would have been twice as nice. The colors are unreal… So many to choose from.
What are some of your best painting experiences?
Best painting experience… train days! Probably one of the last trains I painted with Wane and Ven. Everything went right that night/morning. I remember using a Utilac ‘Parrot Green’ for my border and outlining with a paper label Krylon ‘Avacado’.
